I Had the Blankest Year

Top Eight of 2008
1. Realizing that even though the current outlook is somewhat bleak, the future shines just as bright and nothing is out of reach. Anything is possible, but not everything is necessary.
2. M.D. It was amazing, it truly was.
3. Late nights on Elizabeth Lake and endless days on East Twin Lake
4. That even though this year's offerings at the box office were mostly terrible; Slumdog Millionaire, Charlie Wilson's War, The Dark Knight & Iron Man all managed to be worth watching.
5. That a song that is almost two years old became a pop anthem: M.I.A. - Paper Planes
6. Entering (and exiting) the professional world (for now)
7. Google Reader, Twitter, Slate, A Continuous Lean, JJJJound and the end of my attention span.
8. Mad Men Season 2

Return to the High

At the Alumni Volunteer Corps Christmas/Reunion/Shits & Giggles Party last night we decided to recreate a classic picture on the steps of the building that gave us so much through the years.

Yes, it was only 8 degrees F outside, but we could've cared less.

Also, being that we were in Detroit, we were able to sing the fight song at the top of our lungs, start multiple cheers and then casually walk back to the party without so much as a friendly visit by the DPD.

If only Detroit were this fun all the time...

Ye Olde on Thursdays is now the spot. Blackfin may be the current spot of the moment (SOTM), but the clientele gets a little too much to handle sometimes and the music is atrocious. Ye Olde now has a DJ on Thursdays that plays music that doesn't remind you of college, or have lines about "small town girls" in lonely worlds.

Tonight it's V @ MGM. Will document.

The Escape.

Spent the week up at the cottage post LSAT. Needed to get away for a bit and that's exactly what I was able to do. It's nice to escape the TV, internet, respectable cell reception and the hustle of city/burb life. It's great to remember that the world still turns without Google Reader, the NY Times, Facebook and Twitter.

To escape is to realize what is real and what is frivolous in life.

Now I'm back in civilization and I can't parallel park, have the dirtiest car in Birmingham, am constantly amazed at the fact my phone works, have a lot of TV to catch up on, have almost all of my Christmas shopping left to do, need a new job, need to send out law school applications, etc etc. No wonder I wanted to get away...

Couple of Whiles

woke up friday and laced up my new favorite shoes. reebok is making a comeback. ask ek.

went downstairs and watched this nonsense. barney was holding shit down. $15B and detroit might make a comeback. we'll see. ball's in our court.

decided to watch something more educational for a while.

plenty of juice kept me going. vitamin water too.

all of that got me to this:
logic games are for the weak, reading comp was by far the hardest.

TIME came and had this little delightful nugget about detroit:

Basically I'm just glad I got the LSAT out of the way. Now it's a three week wait for results and I'm on my way to do the things I have always wanted to do before law school runs my life. Time to figure out what that is, exactly...

Venice

I have always wondered what it would be like to wakeboard through a city. Might have to make a trip to Venice next year at this time....
